I asked a Toyota rep about this a few years ago. He stated that they took great pains to tune the suspension of the Tundra so it would ride as smoothly as a Camry, because that's what truck owners in America want.
You'd think there'd be a better what to accomplish that than having noodly frame rails.

Yeah, like, maybe, suspension tuning? Instead of making a springy chassis? I dunno, I've just been of the mindset that a rigid chassis/frame is a good chassis. And I would like it to survive the occasional load of dirt or towing of a car. But that's just me.
